Spring Cleaning in Your RV

Before your first big RV trip of the season, your vehicle needs a bit of TLC to take it from storage mode to travel mode. You spring clean your home, so why not your RV? The following tips will help you get started.
RV driving through mountains
Inspection: When you open the door for the first time this season, you’ll probably be greeted by plenty of dust and maybe even a musty smell. Open the windows to air out the vehicle for a day or so to dissipate any lingering odors. Meanwhile, thoroughly inspect the RV—both inside and out—for signs of wear or damage. Any deterioration should be addressed immediately to prevent future complications.

Cleaning: Spray down the exterior of the RV and scrub it down with an extendable brush and a mild detergent. Vacuum out the interior to rid it of dust. All bedding, curtains and cushion covers can be laundered if necessary. Clean up the counters and wipe down the windshield.

Repairs and maintenance:
Check the owner’s manual to see if any routine maintenance is needed, and top off the fluids while you’re at it. While you may be able to perform an oil change in your driveway, it may be best to take the vehicle to a mechanic for any necessary repairs. Check the tire tread. The manual will provide recommendations for when it’s time to change the tires; although, poor weather conditions can wear them down faster.

System Check: Before hitting the road, make sure everything is working as it should. Check the electrical and plumbing systems, along with appliances and safety gear. If your RV has slides or awnings, check to ensure that they’re working.

Once your RV is ready to go, double check that your RV insurance is current and provides enough coverage to protect your vehicle and your family while away from home.
